Introduction

Hello everyone!

I’ve decided to keep a blog chronicling my adventures during my semester abroad. This is my first blog and my first time out of the country, so I’m very excited! Since I’m leaving in 21 days, I thought now is as good a time as ever to give a little introduction.

I will be studying with the Advanced Studies in England program in Bath, England. Bath is a small city located in the southwest, approximately 1 ½ hours from London. I’ve wanted to go abroad with this program since my first semester at HWS, so as you can imagine I am pretty thrilled to actually be going! While I am there, I will be taking three classes and have an internship that I am incredibly excited about:

1.     Fantasies of Youth: The Child in Twentieth-Century Children’s and Young Adult Literature, which starts with Peter Pan, The Wind in the Willows, and The Secret Garden and goes through Twilight and Harry Potter.
2.     Jane Austen, in which we read all 6 novels.
3.     Shakespeare in Performance, in which we read four plays (which ones we read depends on which are being performed in the area) and focus on the idea that Shakespeare was meant to be seen and not just read.
4.     I’ll be an intern at the American Museum in Britain

Also, I will be living in a 19th century house with six other girls in a residential neighborhood about ten minutes from our classes. And since I couldn't find a beautiful picture of our house, here is a different photo of the city instead.

I’m thrilled to be entering the realm of beautiful accents and beautiful architecture and Doctor Who and Dickens and Platform 9 3/4 and rain (it will feel just like Geneva!), and I look forward to sharing snippets of my experience with you here.
